HI ! I currently live in Japan and have a 3g Nokia for almost two years with Softbank. The white($10 per month),double white($20) and gold plans that they offer include free sms,mms/email,photomail to/from other Softbank customers. Most people communicate with between phones by email in Japan, not sms. The data plan(web,PCsite) is an option that starts at about $10 a month and rises to a max of $60 depending on the amount of data. If you decide to to download one 3mb song it is about $55!! But if you have flat data pack it caps the cost. BTW, the Softbank coverage here is excellent. Much improved than when it was owned by Vodafone. Most of the complaints are still about the 2G digital system. Poor indoor coverage in many parts of Tokyo and indoors. I plan to buy a 16G white one here if they are not sold out on July 11. There is one Softbank store in Harajuku, Tokyo that is open 24hrs!!
