Chief Justice Met U.S. Ambassador Before Declaring Bases in Japan Constitutional
The chief justice at the Supreme Court secretly met with the U.S. ambassador to Japan in 1959 shortly before the top court overturned a lower court ruling that had declared the U.S. forces’ presence in Japan was unconstitutional.
